Many famous people started their way to success after getting acquainted with books. The read book can be a turning point for you. Especially during quarantine; it's time to get as much as possible useful information. We also hope that you don't forget to talk with our DreamBot because you can always discuss your favorite books or just exchange opinions with it.
Although I'm a physicist and work in DS, I'm interested in history. History helps to calibrate an individual scale and teaches me to think in other terms. Thanks to History we can have a look at the events that shook the world in the distant past. I read fiction with even greater interest. It's amazing how the author shares his view of the future. My favorite authors are Boris Akunin, Sergey Lukyanenko and Robert Anson Heinlein. I also read journalism a lot, social and political articles, and economics, but I can't say that I can trust someone 100%, everyone has own eyesore. I can only say that almost anyone who writes on these topics, can/can't notice something remarkablу and recommend reading, for example, the book by Daniel Kahneman "Thinking, Fast and Slow", decide quickly - it explains why they have their eyesore.
If you want to read about Data Science and Machine Learning, I can recommend the book by Kai-Fu Lee "AI Superpowers".
There are three books from which I've literally got goosebumps. The first is Sergey Lukyanenko, "A Lord from Planet Earth". The second one is Nikolai Gogol "Viy". The third is Erich Maria Remarque "All Quiet on the Western Front".
In general, I always liked fiction, and I've never been interested in anything like motivating or "coaching" (Robert Toru Kiyosaki - "Rich Dad Poor Dad" or Jen Sincero - "You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life").
My favorite foreign writers are Ernest Miller Hemingway and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. I guess they did a great impact on me, especially when I was a kid.
Nothing compared to our classics literature like Lev Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky.
But they are not easy to understand and you can get confused in heroes. I am closer to Leonid Andreyev ("Judas Iscariot", "The Red Laughter"), Andrey Platonov ("The Foundation Pit"), Mikhail Bulgakov. From modern writers, I can advise Victor Pelevin and Anton Sorokin.
I prefer to read books during my trips. If the book is very interesting, but I have little time, I listen to audiobooks. I especially like to listen on the way to work. I'm just getting in the mood for the day. Most often I read fiction to throw my thoughts away and immerse myself in another world. I think it's the right thing to do! Sometimes I read detectives, science fiction. The list of my favorite books is pretty long, but I decided to highlight the best ones in my opinion. Keep calm and let's go to read books.
Books that are inspiring and motivating:
- Eliezer Shlomo Yudkowsky: "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality";
- Peter Watts: "Blindsight";
- Books that have turned the mind upside down:
- Sergey Lukyanenko: "The Night Watch", "The Twilight Watch", "The Genome" (book series), "The Stars Are Cold Toys", "Labyrinth of Reflections" (book series).
- Richard Morgan: "Altered carbon";
- James Corey: "The Expanse" (book series);
- Sergey Lukyanenko: "Line of Delirium" (book series), "Knights of Forty Islands", "Spectrum", "Quazi", "Rough Draft" (first book);
- Orson Scott Card: "Ender's Game";
- Boris and Arkady Strugatsky: "Monday Begins on Saturday", "Hard to Be a God";
- Liu Cixin: "The Three-Body Problem" (book series).
I adore reading! But you know, if I start reading, I can't stop. I can read for hours, days, and nights. Every time in my head:" One more chapter and that's it!" Oh no! I'm too emotional. One of my favorite authors is Paulo Coelho. His books should be read in a certain sequence. Then all the splendor and elegant subtlety of his talent can open up. Of course, I like to read fiction, but I also focus on the detective. I started with a book series by Alfred Hitchcock's.
Today bookshops are packed with bestsellers in psychology. One day, I decided to read Dale Carnegie's book. He is a great author whose books are popular all over the world. For me, it's a handbook in my life.
I know that you are loaded in study and work, I still recommend you sometimes to spend time reading your favorite books. Release your head from the daily routine, enjoy the present, and be inspired.
